At Home
Save Some for Tomorrow.
A dozen doesn’t have to be a deadline. Save a few unfilled bagels while they’re still fresh, and tomorrow’s breakfast is already halfway handled.

Cool, Then Portion
Let warm bagels cool completely before packing them. For easy toast later, split them first, then wrap in the portions you’ll actually use. An airtight freezer bag helps limit drying; a small piece of parchment between halves makes them easier to separate.
Freeze the Extras
For keeping unfilled bagels beyond the next few days, freezing is the useful move. King Arthur’s bagel recipe recommends freezing for longer storage. Freeze early, rather than waiting for the bagels to go stale.

Toast What You Need
Unwrap the portion you want. Sliced bread can go from the freezer to the toaster; use your appliance’s directions and check as you go. There isn’t one perfect setting for every bagel thickness or toaster. Start gently and add time if needed.

Keep the Spreads Separate
These tips are for unfilled bagels. Cream cheese, fish, egg and meat fillings need their own refrigerated handling. Keep perishable fillings cold until you’re ready to assemble breakfast.
